So picture it, spring 2021, we were having cocktails and tapas at a dive beach bar and grill when inspiration struck! The mojitos went down quickly as we moved from topic to topic in the vast world of nursing. We knew we weren’t the only ones having these conversations. Why are there so few voices discussing the real issues in nursing? Why were news feeds and social media posts so polarized? Why are nurses leaving the profession faster than the dozen assorted Krispy Kreme’s disappear in the breakroom? Why are the mojitos gone? I have been a nurse for over 20 years and in all that time I still can’t handle sputum. I have worked in many areas of nursing including: bedside RN, inpatient/ER ACNP, preceptor, consulting, clinical academic faculty, and academic administrator. I enjoy reading, creating, debating, learning, and teaching, but my I live my best life at the beach. Being a nurse is definitely my jam… except sputum. Can’t do it. I always had poor “conduct” grades on my report card in middle school for “talks too much,” HA! Oh well, I guess the nuns were right!

I have also been a nurse for over 20 years and worked bedside as an RN, inpatient as a Neonatal NP, precepted students, dabbled in legal consulting, and served as clinical academic faculty. Fun fact about me– the cottage cheese that babies are covered in when born doesn’t bother me but umbilical cords make me gag… gross! My chill time is spent singing, playing guitar, composing music, songwriting, reading, and learning. The perfect getaway for me includes a trip to wine-country with family and friends. I would describe myself as a nerd with an edgy wit and quick sense of humor.
